Performing lines
Performing Lines at The Dance Warehouse offer dancers ages 5-18 an opportunity to pursue dance in a more committed, focused setting than our recreational classes. Dancers attend class 2-3 days a week with a variety of instructors. These dancers compete in 3 local competitions in the spring, perform in multiple recitals, attend a convention and/or master class and have hourly requirements of dance throughout the summer. They attend team parties, a studio lock-in sleepover, potlucks, etc.
As our studio has nearly doubled in size since opening in August of 2004, the demand for a spot on our Performing Lines has grown. In order to work with interested dancers more intensely and on a more individual basis, we offer a Prep-Intensive and Audition combination. We intend to make the selection process for our Performing Lines a fun, learning experience while also enabling our staff to witness skill level. We hope to really get to know dancers as we determine placement for the 2010-2011 school year.
Dancers will work with a variety of instructors in all three of the required elements, tap, ballet and jazz over the three day Prep-Intensive (Wednesday through Friday, August 4th, 5th, and 6th). It is during these classes that the dancers will learn the choreography and skills needed to tryout at our professionally judged audition on Saturday, August 7, 2010. Dancers not able to attend the entire four day process will still be considered, but keep in mind that they may miss some of the important material needed to perform at their best. Results from the audition will be posted by audition number on our website on August 8th.
Once selected, each performing line dancer will be mailed a copy of the 2010-11 contract to review before accepting her spot on a Performing Line. This contract will have details for the entire upcoming dance year (days, time requirements, financial commitment, competition and recital dates, etc.) Please review this contract with your dancer and return it to the studio on the first day of intensives.
Each Performing Line dancer is required to attend a dance intensive Monday through Firday August 16-19 and/ or August 23-26. The exact schedule will be provided upon acceptance to one of our Performing Lines. We will start learning choreography for the 2010-11 competition season during this week. Please reserve this week now, these classes are mandatory for dancers accepted for a Performing Line.
Prep-Intensive and Audition Schedule 2010-11: August 4-7, 2010
A. Age 5-6 Wed.-Friday 2:00-3:30pm, Saturday 9:00-10:00am: $75.00
B. Age 7-8 Wed.-Friday 1:45-4:30pm, Saturday 10:15am-11:45am: $105.00
C. Age 9-10 Wed.-Friday 3:00-5:45pm, Saturday 12:00-1:30pm: $105.00
D. Age 11-12 Wed.-Friday 3:45-6:45pm, Saturday 1:45-3:00pm: $110.00
E. Age 13 and up Wed.-Friday 4:45-8:00pm, Saturday 3:00-4:15pm: $120.00
Requirements for the school year vary based on age and level but are basically as follows:
Ages 5-6: 1 day per week for 1 ½ hours, 2 dances at 3 competitions
Ages 7-8: 2 days per week for 2 hours, 2-3 dances at 3 competitions
Ages 9-10: 2 days per week for 2 ½ hours, 3 dances at 3 competitions **
Ages 11-12: 2 days per week for 2 ½ hours, 3 dances at 3 competitions **
Ages 13 and up: 3 days per week, 4 dances at 3 competitions
**There will be an option for dancers ages 8 and up to audition for a Performing Line in their age group that will have an increased number of required hours and dances.
